Dental Implant Surgery Preparation

It is normal to experience minor bleeding within the first 24 hours after your surgery. If you encounter excessive bleeding, apply pressure to the affected area by biting down on a gauze pad for 30 minutes. If the bleeding becomes continuous or uncontrollable, please contact our office immediately. Our emergency dental services can take you right away.

We recommend that you avoid smoking for at least 48 hours before your appointment to ensure a safe and speedy recovery. Reducing or quitting smoking before your surgery can be beneficial, as tobacco and nicotine often damage oral tissues and restrict blood and oxygen flow. This leads to slower healing and an increased risk of infection.

On the day of your surgery, please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes with short sleeves and low or no-heeled shoes to ensure your comfort during the procedure. It's important to wear clothing that allows easy access to your arm, so avoid anything restrictive. Additionally, please refrain from wearing jewelry, contact lenses, cosmetics (including perfume), makeup, lipstick, or nail polish during the surgery.

To ensure your safety during the procedure, it is crucial that you provide our staff with complete information about all medications and supplements you regularly take. This includes prescription drugs, vitamins, herbal supplements, blood thinners, insulin, pain or depression medications, and any other substances used medically or recreationally. This information helps us make sure that you receive the best possible care. While some medications may be permitted on the day of surgery, others might need to be discontinued days or even weeks beforehand. If you have asthma, please remember to bring your inhaler on the day of your surgery.

If you are sick or are experiencing a chest or head cold, sore throat, fever, stomach flu, or any other illness, we may need to reschedule your appointment for another day. Surgery is an invasive procedure that can take a toll on your body, including your immune system. A safe and effective surgical outcome is much more likely when you are in good health before the surgery. Your recovery will be much easier as well.

To attend your appointment for surgery, please make sure you have arranged for someone you know and trust, like a friend or family member, to drive you to and from our office. They will also need to stay in the office while you have your surgery or wait for you in a vehicle outside. You won't be able to operate machinery, drive, or make decisions for yourself for the rest of the day, so make sure you have someone lined up to help you.

After your surgery, please refrain from physical or strenuous activity, driving a vehicle, or operating machinery for the first 24 hours.
