Onlay

Dental onlays are larger than normal fillings but smaller than crowns. They are usually made from gold alloy and are used to strengthen teeth affected by decay or wear. While inlays replace half of the tooth, onlays replace the tooth cusp to preserve its structure in the presence of a dental crown.

Otherwise, onlays are identical in function and materials to inlays. Learn more about inlays here.
